Firstly, if you're wondering why I'm talking about a Season 2 episode, it's because I'm on my 5,000,000th re-watch of Grimm.
In this episode, we learn that Lance Calvin stole money from 2 struggling churches. We also learn that he framed others for this embezzlement and killed them in the hope that the police would believe that they fled the country. However, Norman Brewster's prosthetic hip foils this plan and Calvin is eventually found out. The members of Calvin's congregation don't take kindly to the deception and unite to mete out vigilante justice. Some would say that Calvin got what he deserved.
However, the money is not returned to the church. Instead, Megan Marston (who is an accessory to TWO murders and is complicit in the embezzlement of over three-quarters of a million dollars) is seen enjoying a luxurious cabana, along with Harmony. Meanwhile, the fleeced* church-goers are handed over to the District Attorney.
I'm not saying that every episode should have a happy and just ending (the Brothers Grimm certainly wouldn't), but this ending is really strange in this regard. It's an incredibly unfair outcome, yet it's presented as a happy ending (even the music "I'm H-A-P-P-Y" suggests this).
Does anybody else find the ending of this episode slightly jarring?
*bad pun intended
