  • The trivia section says Krampus is a "mixture of Krampus and Knecht Ruprecht" I just watched "Twelve Days of Krampus" for the first time. And I immedietley recgonized him as "Belsnickel."

Belsnickel is a man wearing furs and sometimes a mask with a long tongue. He is typically very ragged and disheveled. He wears torn, tattered, and dirty clothes, and he carries a switch in his hand with which to beat naughty children. Belsnickel is also known to leave lumps of coal behind as a reminder to behave in the future.

Unlike Knecht Ruprecht, Belsnickel does not accompany Saint Nicholas but instead visits alone. And according to some folk-lore from lower Austria, Belsnickel is followed by Krampus. (Doesn't everything in this show seem link Austria).

I think the writers used Belsnickel story for this episode, and tweated it by making Belsnickel the man and explaining the part of the story being followed by Krampus as Belsnickel's woged form.

On a side note, it would have been nice if they would have taken 5 seconds to let us know what the council decided to do with him. lol
