I can only agree to this partially. Nick gained most of his Wesen friends' trust because he was not reared as a traditional Grimm which pretty much is behead first, ask questions later... Sure, being a police officer rules out "dispensing justice" in such a way (judge & jury, like Wu said), but this is a "egg/chicken" dilemma. A traditional Grimm (Mom, Aunt Marie, etc.) would have no place in the force to begin with, so if Nick had been groomed as one by his family, I don't think he would have gone for the badge at all.
Maybe he woulnd't have, if both women really were those kind of hardcore Grimms. But Aunt Marie (who groomed him since he was 12) apparently didn't want him to become a full-fledged 'traditional Grimm' who kills every wesen on sight to begin with. Rather she told him to only hunt the bad ones. Would a 'real Grimm' do that? A 'traditional' one? I don't think so. And since she was even romanticaly involved with Farley at one point, I think it's safe to assume, that she at least wasn't generally acting hostile against every Wesen, maybe even had befriended some Wesen in her life. Kelly might not with her beeing on the chase for her husbands murderers, but Marie most surely did.
And I'm pretty sure she knew about Nick's decision joining the force before he started his training. If she'd thought it would be inappropriate for a potential grimm, she would've told him so from the beginning, maybe trying to convince him of taking an other career. Or to quit the force by the time he began seeing Wesen at the latest. But no, she just advised him to leave Juliette, no word about his job whatsoever.
So... it's difficult beeing a grimm and a cop, but it hasn't been the worst combination for the most part of his career so far, giving him the opportunity to do both his 'jobs' without getting charged every time... most times at least XD
I sometimes wonder how those 'special cases' were handled before Nick took over this duty...
