Mary: Sean's father was a human and a royal so royals in general are human.
wiki: If a human produces offspring with a Wesen, the results vary. In the case of a Hexenbiest, the offspring will inherent the ability to woge. However, due to their nature as hybrids, the offspring will only have a partial woge; certain parts of their bodies will appear woged while others will not. Despite this, the offspring will still have a degree of Wesen powers, as Sean Renard has demonstrated a degree of superhuman strength characteristic of Zauberbiests.

My theory on royals: they aren't just humans with power and wealth, otherwise everyone could be one. Also they seem to use almost entirely wesen servants. How could they, if they couldn't see them?
So I'd guess they are some kind of grimms( not really but closer to them then to humans or real wesen). They share the ability to see wesen, their ability is inherited by DNA but unlike grimms they seek power and wealth and can't absorb wesen powers. Also they are charismatic and born leaders.
My theory is that the royals are wesen, ones based on the folklore of the fairy court. Or if not wesen then something else, but still based on the fae courts. Perhaps they don't woge or are so powerful they are in full control of it, or have the unigue ability to not have grimms see them. Sean was in much more control of his woge than any other wesen around a grimm.
The ROYALS are not wesen they are human, the writers have even said they were human in interviews.
I think they were powerful humans (from the first families of humans or something like that or a reference to a legend or religion I don't know about ); that they have some alchemical powers or something in their blood/DNA that allowed them to "create" the Grimms that fight back the Wessen and control them especially the houndjager. I think that, because of their reproduction between themselves they developed severe sterility(see noble Europeans royal families historically ). Hence the price for a royal baby. In one episode, I am pretty sure Nick's mom explained that the royal families created the Grimms.
The royals dont want somone of there lineage falling in to there hands so you can resell the baby for a hefty price to the royal (i think).
The Royals seemed to be more naturally skilled "politically" with managing the multi-dimensional chess games of Court Politics... They also tended to be "natural" leaders and natural manipulators...
For example Renard's "Strong suit" was as a Royal - not as a Zauberbiest... And it's very ironic that the outcast illegitimate son of the King was constantly outmaneuvering the "Legitimate" Royals at their own games... He was always out ahead of everybody else and worked tirelessly to stay 10 or 15 moves ahead and keep himself 2 or 3 alternative "paths" to success...
Interestingly - Victor was the only Official Royal to display genuine regard for "his troops"... Renard was the other "Royal" to display regard/care for his own subordinates. All the others including The King seemed to view their subordinates (and especially The Verrat) as disposable...
