When they [[woge]], Koschie gain an almost sickly appearance. The sclera of their eyes turns jet black while their irises turn a radioactive green. Beneath their translucent skin are vein nodules and, through openings in their misshapen skull, portions of brain matter that glow the same shade of green. Further adding to their sickly appearance are rotten looking teeth, which due to the Koschie's translucent lips and skin, are always visible, even when the mouth is closed, and their lack of hair. Koschie can focus their woge to just their eyes and their hands.

Koschie have the ability to heal other beings of serious injuries and aliments. Sometimes the injury or ailment heals instantaneously along with any pain associated with it, while other times the pain lingers for a while, but gradually goes away over time. Koschie can also afflict people with serious radiation poisoning which will kill the victim within a few days, the dosage is so high the area where they did it will still be "hot" a few days later. The use of both abilities, particularly the healing ability, puts stress on their bodies and weakens them the more they use the ability. If they use their healing ability too much, it will eventually kill them.

A Koschie (KAH-shee; Rus. Коще́й "Koshchey", a skeleton-man in Russian folklore) is a radioactive skeleton-like Wesen that first appeared in "Red Menace".

Appearances

"Red Menace"

Boris Myshkin, a healer, is standing over a Russian girl suffering from immense pain. His eyes then glow green, and his hands woge into translucent skin and green veins. After a few seconds, he stops and stumbles backward in discomfort. He tells the girl that her pain should go away soon. He then declines her offer of payment, saying that her living a long and happy life is enough payment for him.

At a Russian party, Boris is being honored by the host, Dmitri. He appears to be the guest of honor, as the participants all toast to him and his wife, Olga. After giving a brief speech, he excuses himself and stumbles into a storage room in disorientation and discomfort. There, he is attacked by Alex Renko who is disguised as a waiter. After a short struggle, Boris woges while clasping Renko's wrists, sending radioactive energy to Renko. Renko escapes Boris' grip with red rashes on his arms and runs in pain, crashing and falling through the window. Renko later dies from radioactive poisoning.

Afterwards, Renard, Nick and Hank visit the Myshkin residence to talk with Boris, who is in the middle of a healing. Walking into the room, Boris' translucent hands are seen by Nick during the healing. Boris tells the detective how he was attacked, but he did not know who the attacker was. Based on Nick's description, Boris' identity as a Koschie is deduced by Renard.

In one of the books in the trailer, Nick, Hank and Monroe find that Rasputin was also a Koschie, and that they are extremely hard to kill. They also find that they have the power to heal and the power to kill. According to the diary entry, Rasputin was beaten, shot four times, poisoned and dumped into the Neva River before finally being subdued.

When Boris is taken into the precinct, he realizes what Nick is and reveals that each time he heals someone, he himself dies a little and he is accepting of his death.

Back at the Myshkin residence, Boris is having an affair with his maid, Larissa Komarov. In the bedroom, Larissa had poisoned Boris' bottle of vodka and reveals her true intentions of trying to kill him. Before Boris was a healer, he was an assassin for the FSB and had killed Larissa's father. She reveals that her brother, Alex was the one who tried to kill him at the party. Boris begs for forgiveness, saying that he is not the same man as he was before as Larissa pulls out a pair of scissors and stabs him in the chest.

After Olga slits Larissa's throat in a rage that she tried to kill Boris, Boris heals Larissa despite his wife's protests and knowing that the stress of healing again would kill him. He dies right after he finishes healing Larissa.
