Doppelarmbrust (DOP-pəl-arm-broost; pl: -brüste; Germ. doppel "double"/"twin" + Armbrust "crossbow") is a type of crossbow designed by Grimms to kill Blutbaden. A Doppelarmbrust fires two bolts without reloading. They can be loaded with many different types of poisons and sera. The design is closest to a French or Italian weapon. ("The Mythology of Grimm")
Description
The standardized version, as shown in the Grimm Diaries, is one loaded with hellebore extract, and the other with hemlock extract. The hellebore extract has a sedative power to counter the Blutbad's "moon madness" ("The Mythology of Grimm") (this is used if the Grimm wishes to interrogate the Wesen), the second is poison, and means that any hit is lethal. It is also possible to add other herbs or potions to the bolt, and use it to administer them. These herbs are also effective against other Wesen, and Nick uses the Doppelarmbrust as his go-to weapon.
Appearances
Season 1
"Leave It to Beavers"
Nick found his Doppelarmbrust in the trailer's weapons cabinet. He took it and used it in weapon practice. Understanding that if he wanted to be a Grimm, he had to master his ancestors' weapons, Nick quickly learnt how to use it, with a little help from Monroe. This training proved vital, as later, in a fight with the reapers, Nick managed to defeat a Reaper by shooting him with it in the neck, killing the Hässlich.
"Woman in Black"
Upon examining the Grimm Diaries, Monroe and Nick found out that a previous Grimm defeated a Siegbarste by using his Doppelarmburst to fire a bolt filled with Schlaftrunk to tranquilize the ogre. Nick planned to repeat the tactic on a Schakal, Akira Kimura, so he could interrogate him and find out why he killed his parents. However, upon trying to execute the plan, the Kimura's reflexes proved too fast, and he managed to dodge the bolt, forcing Nick to have to battle him into submission.
Season 2
"The Bottle Imp"
While introducing Hank to the world of the Grimms and the trailer, Nick opened the weapons cabinet to show Hank his crossbow."The Hour of Death"
Getting nowhere with Adrian Zayne, who Nick knew had kidnapped a woman, but couldn't prove it, Nick planned to shoot Zayne with a bolt filled with Serum Exomologesis, a powerful truth serum to make him tell his secrets. As such, he took his doppelarmbrust to Zayne's house planning to shoot him, but he arrived too late, as by that point, Adrian had already been tortured to death by Ryan Smulson. He then had to hide the weapon before the arrival of other police officers.
