This fall, Grimm will continue for what is becoming more and more rare amongst TV shows, especially on Friday nights--an amazing 6th season. There are two reasons I think this has been possible, and it's two things the cast and crew often point out themselves.
Those two things are the fans--known of course as "Grimmsters"--and the unique, incredible camaraderie and chemistry amongst Grimm's cast and crew that is very hard to find nowadays with TV shows.
The friendship, the bonds, and the love that has formed between the cast has only made me love this show even more. It undoubtedly enhances the quality of what's produced during writing, filming, editing, and all other aspects of creating each episode of Grimm. Guest actors, co-stars, guest directors, and extras always seemingly have great things to say about their experiences on set, particularly the atmosphere created by a cast and crew that respect one another and love what they do.
I truly believe that there is a very important lesson that everyone, not just fans, can learn from the love and respect that exists between Grimm's cast and crew members. Unfortunately, there has been an increasingly vocal minority of Grimmsters that has seemingly lost sight of this lesson, prompting several notable members of the cast and crew to make public statements on social media about this. It's both shocking and deeply disappointing to me that it's gotten to that point, and it's why I have been compelled to say something and deliver a positve message that I hope will resonate with all fans of Grimm.
First, look at the diversity of the wonderful actresses and actors that make up this fantastic show. They come from all different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences, and yet, they were all brought together by a show that has now surpassed 100 episodes, including the fantastic and intense 2-hour 5th season finale. Much more than that though, this diverse group of individuals came together and developed a bond that is a testament to the fact that what makes people different by no means affects our ability to listen, to understand, and to respect and appreciate one another.
The diversity of Grimm's cast and crew is reflected in its fan base and is why the show has attracted such a large international following. The show has certainly addressed controversial historical events at times, but through it all, Grimm has embraced all cultures and backgrounds, a strength that stands out particularly when it's relied upon the diversity of its cast, guest stars, co-stars, and directors for various episodes. I don't see any reason why all Grimmsters can't and shouldn't embrace the different cultures and backgrounds of other respective fans the way the show does, and thankfully, I have largely seen this be the case. But to those who maybe have lost sight of this for whatever reason--I truly hope this can serve as a friendly reminder to you that Grimm's success extends all over the world, and by doing so, this show is an amazing tie that binds several different groups of people into one remarkable, diverse, and wonderfully unique fan base. From the Phillipines to Brazil, from the Black Forest of Germany to the forests of Portland, from Vienna to my home town of Boston--the term "Grimmster" is a bond we all share. While the feelings and, at times, very passionate opinions of Grimmsters can vary significantly, in the end, we're all fans of the same show.
Remember that the example the cast and crew of Grimm sets for us as fans is an example we can absolutely set for others. Appreciate the two things that have likely contributed to the success of this show the most--your fellow fans and the cast members. Be the best version of yourself that you can be; the best and most productive type of discussions are usually the ones that are both impassioned and sincerely respectful.
Thanks for reading, and thank you to the many fans of Grimm who have been nothing but a pleasure to meet and talk to. You continue to make it a pleasure to be part of the extended Grimm family and absolutely make me look forward to Friday nights that much more!
