I think that a dying Grimm must put out some sort of hormone that causes potential grimm to start developing their powers.
I think that another requirement is a certain sized Wesen population and/or a threshold number of Wesen wogeing in their presence.
Ive never thought about that, I simply figured it was like puberty.
To our knowledge, Nick began developing his powers before his aunt died. So it could be something that speeds it up, but if it were a requirement Im sure theyd have it in the diaries.
This could, however, speed up the development. Considering Nick is about 33, and Josh is somewhat around Trubels age, its a rough estimate in when they become a Grimm, since Josh doesnt have his powers (yet, you never know with these writers), It could just be a matter of his age, or as you say, the woging count. Though Pennsylvania doesnt have a high criminal activity count I think. And then theres always the possibility he just doesnt have the gene.
I wouldnt say that Naiads are "half-wesen", if they were then the gene would get smaller and smaller, causing them to eventually go extinct. Then again, how did "full" Naiads come into existence if only females are non-sterile. (Or whatever the female version is).
I think Naiads just have a dominant gene that dominates the Human gene. That would explain why they all look like "full" Naiads.
