When participating in the "Kelly Schade-Burkhardt: Will he be a Grimm and a Zauberbiest?" thread, I made some realizations of something that's been bugging me for a little while. It's not really relevant to that thread, though, so here's the new one...

(And yes, I also posted this to
TV.com. Different community. :D )

I've been wanting to see Nick become a dad for years. And I know a lot of people have a problem with babies on the show, but I do think that the existence of baby Kelly has a lot of potential for good stories. Provided that the writers resist the temptation to turn him into a Gary Stu, and instead focus more on his place in the family and his place in the world.

For example, if he manifests as a Grimm or as a Zauberbiest (or even both), this would make him a target for any number of hate groups that want him dead, and this could make the fight against bigotry and hatred a lot more personal. There's just... one... little... thing... that I, as a viewer, really need to happen first, before I can get emotionally invested in any plotline involving Baby Kelly:

I need Nick to feel like a Dad, to me.

I know Nick has been through an awful lot. No need to tell me that. :) And I'm certainly not asking for this show to turn into, "Three Men and a Baby" (I don't think anybody wants that!)

But it would really, really help if, from time to time, we could see like a 5-to-10-second scene of Nick alone in a room, holding Kelly. Not because he was pressured into it, but just because he wants to be holding Kelly. Or because he's trying to comfort Kelly... either of those would go a long way to helping me to switch gears and believe that Nick is a dad now.

Thoughts? Or other thoughts on Nick's and Baby Kelly's relationship?
